Adult Therapy & Counselling in Camrose

Supporting adults in Camrose, Wetaskiwin, and surrounding communities, with virtual appointments available across Alberta.

Why Seek Therapy

Adult therapy with a psychologist can help when you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply not like yourself. Therapy offers a space to feel heard, better understand what you are facing, and build tools for moving forward.

At CRMH, we support Albertans working through concerns such as:

Anxiety & Constant Worry
$0.00

You may find yourself restless, overwhelmed by everyday activities, feeling on edge, or having difficulty turning it off at the end of a day. Anxiety can look like difficulty sleeping, panic, pefectionism, muscle tension, and even fatigue from all that worrying.

Depression
$0.00

Depression can be difficult to recognize in yourself or others. You may feel exhaustion, low motivation, guilty, or worthless. You may experience indecision, difficulty sleeping, social withdrawal, and may even have suicidal thoughts. Activities you used to enjoy may no longer hold their appeal.

Trauma
$0.00

Trauma can be a single incidence or a series of incidents that occur in childhood or adulthood. Symptoms include feeling on edge, recurring memories, avoidance of thoughts, feelings, or external reminders of the event(s). Unfortunately, those who experience trauma often also experience self-blame.

Eating Disorders
$0.00

You may have “safe” foods and “bad” foods, count calories, and much of your headspace may be consumed by food & body stress. Exercise, medication, and other efforts to expel calories may all be part of your routine. You may find yourself stressing about events involving food. You may also find that there are times you eat in a way that feels out of control.

Grief
$0.00

Grief is one of the most intense, prolonged emotions to experience. You may feel sorrow, anger, or numbness. Life may feel meaningless or surreal. The heaviness of the loss may be nearly unbearable.

Life Transitions
$0.00

You may have experienced changes to your work status, ended a long-term relationship, moved or welcomed a baby into your home. You may feel sad, lonely, worried, or irritable.

What to look for when selecting a therapist.

There are so many options when trying to find a therapist. It is an aphabet soup out there. How can you choose?

In Alberta, Psychologist (RPsych) and Social Worker (RSW) are the only protected titles. Psychologists and Social Workers are regulated health professionals. As psychologists, this means that we are upheld to ethical practice by a malpractice complaints board, meet minimum standards for training and education, and are mandated to continue with professional development across the lifespan, just like doctors, nurses, and dentists.

Many mental health practitioners are not regulated, meaning that there are no minimum standards for education or training to use these titles. The following titles are not regulated:

  • counsellor

  • therapist

  • mental health therapist

  • life coach

This means that anyone could create a posting on Psychology Today and start a business using these titles (or others) and not be in breech of any regulations.

There are some fabulous therapists and counsellors out there. Just be sure to ask questions such as:

  • how much post-secondary education do you have?

  • what modalities do you use?

  • do you engage in consultation with experts to support your work?

All of the team members at CRMH are regulated health professionals, either Registered Psycholologists or Registered Provisonal Psychologists (completing final clinical hours under supervision).

Also remember that it is important to have a good therapeutic relationship with your psychologist. This is the most important factor related to outcome in therapy. Pay attention to how comfortable you feel in the therapy room, and if you and your psychologist seem to be on the same page about what you trying to do and how you are getting there.
